As of May 1, Black Bear Partners officially became the new owners and operators of the longtime Deep Creek Lake gathering spot, Black Bear Tavern. Their immediate plans are to restore the tavern’s reputation as a go-to destination for food, drinks, entertainment, and community.

The ownership group includes Warren and Barb Porter, longtime patrons whose love for the Black Bear inspired them to purchase a home within walking distance of the tavern; Mark and Mollie Cicacci, who have spent nearly 30 years making Deep Creek Lake their second home; and Garrett County resident Nick Senella, who remembers the Bear as one of the premier destinations for nightlife and entertainment at the lake.

“We’ve always loved the Black Bear Tavern. It’s one of those places that is part of the Deep Creek experience,” the ownership group shared. “We’re excited to build on that tradition and can’t wait to welcome everyone in.”

The new owners also expressed appreciation for the Clapsaddle family for their years of stewardship and assistance during the transition process,
while recognizing the current staff for their continued dedication and commitment.

“Our staff is the backbone of this tavern, and we are proud to be working alongside them as we move forward together,” the group said.

The vision for the future centers on creating a welcoming space for both locals and visitors. A full lineup of karaoke nights, live music, DJs, and special entertainment is planned throughout the summer. From acoustic performances and crowd favorites to late-night club events and mechanical bull nights, the Bear is focused on bringing back the fun atmosphere locals and visitors remember.

A full entertainment schedule can be found in the Live Music section on page 100.

Guests can expect future announcements regarding menu updates, events, and ongoing improvements in the months ahead.
