The first edition of The LakeFront Magazine hit the stands in January 1991. Created by Skip & Linda Carr, this monthly magazine is unique in its appeal — the information within its pages appeals to all segments of the Deep Creek Lake market…visitors, locals and second home owners.
Skip & Linda not only wanted a publication that could provide comprehensive information in a fun format, they also wanted a vehicle to provide an affordable advertising options for local merchants to reach potential clients. To this day, advertisers can reach thousands of clients for less than $50 a month.
The LakeFront was the first area publication to feature local businesses with their “In The Spotlight” feature and Skip’s highly entertaining, off-the-wall column “Skip Around Town” remains a reader favorite.

Sarah Myers, MBA, Editor-in-Chief/Owner
Sarah Myers, MBA, is Editor-in-Chief and owner of The LakeFront Magazine. She brings more than a decade of experience in digital publishing and online marketing to the magazine, and works closely with local businesses, advertisers and community organizations around Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County. Since growing up here, she is passionate about helping others see—and experience—what makes this community feel like home.
Linda Carr, Co-Founder
Linda Carr, co-founder of The LakeFront Magazine, is a longtime advocate for the people of Deep Creek Lake and Garrett County.
Tony Lolli, Contributing Writer
Tony Lolli is an author, essayist, and columnist who lives in Oakland. Several of his books are on Amazon.
MaryCarolyn Thies, PhD, Contributing Writer
MaryCarolyn Thies, PhD, is an Integrative Health and Nutrition Specialist, Master Gardener, RYT 500 yoga teacher, and Certified PT. She writes about community interests, wellness, evidence-based nutrition, and gardening.
Francesca Branson, Contributing Writer
Francesca Branson, a high school educator, spends her days teaching and learning among students and her time in Deep Creek exploring the vast natural playground that the local mountains, waterways and ORV trails have to offer.
Evan Byrne, Contributing Writer
Evan Byrne read The LakeFront in 1998 on the first of a dozen family vacations to DCL before relocating to Mountain Lake Park. He enjoys sharing what he’s learned about this area with others.

Robin Clutter, a native of the area, is excited to share stories about the natural beauty, wildlife and rich history of the area. A retired real estate agent from a family business looking forward to writing for The LakeFront.

Tamra Canfield is a lifelong Oakland resident and full-time retiree, living with her husband, Ed, and their three sons. She enjoys crafting, volunteering, spending time with family, and exploring the parts of Garrett County that are still new to her.
Patrice Wray, Graphic Design
Raised a WV girl who loves Deep Creek, but lives in Arizona, Patrice Wray has over 40 years’ experience in the printing and publishing business. Plus, she’s one of the owner’s bestest friends. Take advantage of the free ad design by Patrice in the LakeFront and Menu Guide.

In Memoriam - Skip Carr, March 4, 1948 – October 19, 2021
Everett “Skip Around Town” Carr (3/4/48 – 10/19/21) was co-founder and self-described Paper Boy in Chief of The LakeFront Magazine. For over 30 years, Skip entertained readers each month with his individual and witty take on life in Garrett County. Skip is deeply missed by family, friends, and his faithful readers.
