April 2023 Issue

Dear Friends,

As I write this, we are welcoming the first day of spring. Although it is a frigid 18 degrees outside, the sun is moving further northward with its promise of longer days and warmer weather. If, like so many, spring cleaning is high on your priority list this month, be sure to read our Feature Story on Page 6 about the recycling efforts in Garrett County. Collen DuBose takes a look at efforts county-wide and you may be surprised at the items that can be recycled…many free of charge! Check them out before discarding what you think may be trash.

If your spring plans include remodeling, check out our Business Spotlight on Page 16 highlighting Don’s Appliances. A family owned company since 1971 (whose recycling efforts are also pretty impressive), Don’s has 11 locations and an amazing website to help you find just want you need for your new kitchen, bathroom, and more!

Our Calendar of Events starts on Page 24 as activity ramps up for the season. You’ll find Mike Fratz’s column beginning on page 32 with his latest on the happenings around the lake. The Bloodhounds return to Garrett County this month, read more about them beginning on Page 54, and The Garrett Community Concert Band has scheduled their spring performance (Page 48).

Remember, whatever your pleasure this spring, Enjoy!
