SEYMOUR is a new Garrett County Arts Council project, in cooperation with Simon Pearce, which spotlights fine workmanship and lively entertainment.  This is the second year for the event, and we plan on building on last year’s success.  It will take place on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 during the annual Autumn Glory weekend in Oakland.  It is a distinctive art encounter that will engage all who attend.
Visitors to SEYMOUR will discover fine artists, traditional quality craftsman, and regional food vendors selling all handmade work.  Many forms of artwork will be represented including but not limited to painting, photography, woodworking, pottery, printmaking, jewelry, and glass.  Some artists will be offering short demos at their booths for people to enjoy.  Entertainment will be scheduled throughout the two-day event.  SEYMOUR will also have an interactive art corner for children to explore.
Simon Pearce, located off of Rt. 135 east of Oakland, is the ultimate host for SEYMOUR.  The company produces hand-blown crystal glassware in functional, sophisticated designs.  Visitors will be able to enjoy the adventure of SEYMOUR and continue on to watch master glassblowers at work at Simon Pearce.  The company’s retail shop will be open as well.
The Autumn Glory Festival attracts over 50,000 visitors each October.  This is the perfect time for Garrett County Arts Council to present our SEYMOUR event. With a forty-year history of arts curation, this is an opportunity for an innovative and fresh approach to supporting artists’ success while offering opportunities for discerning art customers.  SEYMOUR celebrates the curiosity and creativity of all ages as it strives to engage the community in the arts.
The Garrett County Arts Council will be raffling off two items at this year’s event.  One item is a queen size quilt made by local quilter Joan Chaney that is titled “Misty Mountain Pond”.  The other is a unique bowl from local wood-turner Don Smith that is made from Big Leaf Maple Burl from the Pacific Northwest.  Tickets are $1 a piece or $5 for 6 or $10 for 15.  To see the items being raffled off, and to purchase your raffle tickets ahead of the event, stop in to The Gallery Shop at 108 S. Second Street in Oakland.  The drawing will take place on Saturday October 12 at 5 pm. Good Luck!
Located just three miles east of Oakland at 265 Glass Drive, admission and parking at SEYMOUR is free of charge.  Show hours are 10:00am to 6:00pm each day.  To find out more about the event visit seymourart.org or follow the SEYMOUR 2019 event on Facebook for sneak peeks of this year’s vendors as the event draws closer.
