53rd Annual Autumn Glory Festival — Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Autumn Glory Festival will look a little different this year. In lieu of the parade, the Chamber will be hosting an Autumn Glory Float Contest on Saturday, October 10. The Chamber also plans to host their annual Autumn Glory Craft & Gift Sale on Saturday, October 10 from 10 am – 6 pm and Sunday, October 11 from 10 am – 4 pm at the Garrett County Fairgrounds in McHenry. The Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area, a program of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce, will once again offer their annual Turkey Trail, which celebrates the event’s roots by promoting area turkey dinners served in our region. The Heritage Area will also have two new Fall Foliage Driving Tours, highlighting some of the area’s most scenic spots to view our stunning Autumn leaves. 2020 Autumn Glory Kick-Off Event (Virtual) — 5:30 to 6:30 PM.  This virtual event will introduce you to the Autumn Glory King and Queen, celebrate with the new Golden Ambassador, hear the winner of the Photo Canvas Auction and enjoy a special performance by Silver Spring, MD based comedian Robert Mac.  Cost is $10 per person.  Register online or visitdeepcreek.com or call Holly Lane at 301-387-6171.

Mountain Lake Park Open House, 10 AM – 3 PM (301 G St, Oakland, MD )  Bring friends and family to Historic Mountain Lake Park and stroll the neighborhood once visited by President Taft, Mark Twain, and William Jennings Bryan. As Maryland’s first Chautauqua resort, founded in 1881 along the B&O Railroad, 61 quaint and grand Victorian structures still line the historic district. Start your self-guided tour at the original Ticket Office and Historical Association Museum and pick up a free walking or driving map, or use the virtual guided tour phone app. Attendants can help get you connected.

While at the Ticket Office, you can also take a selfie with the vintage-style trolley bus recently acquired by the town, and learn about the new Leo Martin Memorial Park that is steps away and currently under construction.  You can also get more information about the renewed Victorian Chautauqua annual event that celebrates the town’s history the weekend following The 4th of July with performances, lectures, music, activities, and much more.  Arrive in period costume to enhance your experience and snap plenty of pictures near your favorite destinations.  Hosts will be following CDC guidelines with face coverings and social distancing. Forestry Field Days & Equipment Show — Shady Acres Motocross, 9 AM – 5 PM. Oakland Celebration of Autumn Glory — Downtown Oakland, 12 – 6 PM.  The Town of Oakland is planning an exciting alternative to the usual celebration of the Autumn Glory Festival this year. In an attempt to provide a fun, free, and safe atmosphere for guests, the Town of Oakland and GOBA has planned an event, spread out over the distance of downtown Oakland at various times.

Oakland’s Celebration of Autumn Glory will kick off on Friday, October 9th, with a drive-in style showing of Toy Story 4 held at the Town Parking Lot at 7:30pm. This movie is a continuation of the Oakland Little Yough Family Flicks series and is sponsored by the Garrett County Judy Center. Admission is free but space is limited.

Then on Saturday, October 10th, from 12pm-6pm, the excitement and entertainment continues with Oakland’s Celebration of Autumn Glory! In lieu of the parade, guests are invited to downtown Oakland to experience some of their favorite parts of Autumn Glory. There will be live music, local shopping, non-profit food vendors, and some local groups providing familiar entertainment. Some of the local favorites in attendance will be Rotary Fries, Cindy’s Fund, The Steve Smith Band, Boundless Energy from Brenda’s Body Shop, the Pleasant View Baptist Church Puppets, The Terah Crawford Band, Turkey Dinners by the Oakland Chapter #67- Order of the Eastern Star,  demonstrations by Nomad Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu & MMA and Oakland Martial Arts Academy, and more!
