While Deep Creek Lake has many unique shopping experiences, options for women’s clothing has not really been one of them. And while local photographer Marcia Warnick never saw herself fulfilling that role, a chance meeting literally changed her life’s direction.

For nearly 20 years, Marcia, a Grantsville native, had been working at Railey Realty as a licensed personal assistant to co-owner Bill Weisgerber.

While attending a marketing seminar last January, Marcia took special interest in one of the speakers, a woman from the same small area in Minnesota in which Marcia had lived years ago. The woman owned a successful clothing boutique which piqued Marcia’s interest. After a brief conversation, Marcia felt that she found a new path and with an offer of mentoring from the boutique owner, off she went to Minnesota to learn the ins and outs of the clothing business.

“I’ve always thought we needed to have a boutique at Deep Creek. Something that would not only appeal to vacationers but also in a price range so everyone could find something affordably stylish,” said Marcia.
After much discussion and contemplation, Marcia decided on the name Cashmere Clothing Co. Although much of the clothing is soft, supple and feels extravagant, she doesn’t currently carry a cashmere line, but she’ll be happy to explain the reasoning behind the name if you stop in and ask.

Under the guidance of her new mentor, Marcia went on her first buying trip to the Los Angeles Fashion District, featuring 100 square blocks of vendors, where she made her initial buys and contracted with several quality vendors as her main suppliers, and opened her doors just a few months later.

Cashmere Clothing Co offers something for everyone. Here you’ll find everything from jeans to t-shirts to a new work outfit in sizes Small thru 3X. “We have a variety of comfortable work and special occasion dresses as well as casual and athleisure wear,” she explains.

Marcia gets new shipments in weekly and the shop is filling up with beautiful sweaters, skirts and jackets for the fall in lovely colors that any woman can appreciate.

In addition to beautiful clothing, Marcia carries a few unique lines of hand-crafted jewelry, including freshwater pearls, and accessories to complete any outfit. She is planning on adding a few new lines with a more classic look…just in time for the holiday season.

With Marcia’s personalized customer service, large selection and oversized dressing room, Cashmere Clothing is a place where everyone can feel comfortable. “Because of our location, people might think we only cater to vacationers but that’s just not true. Locals are the backbone of our business and while we do carry some higher end lines, we also offer pieces starting in the $20 something range.”

Marcia knows her target audience and keeps this in mind when choosing her merchandise. “While we have a large selection of clothing for all sizes and ages, we don’t really cater to juniors,” explains Marcia.
“My shoppers are women who want to be stylish and on trend no matter what their age. They want comfortable but unique pieces that can be worn over and over again.”

Be sure to like Cashmere Clothing Co’s Facebook page where Marcia shows highlights from new arrivals and offers styling tips…as well as updates on exciting events and specials. You can also see her clothing modeled at the October Women’s Networking Event to be held at Black Bear Tavern on Thursday, October 3rd where Marcia will showcase some new arrivals and touch on learning your body type and how to best dress for that particular type.

Cashmere Clothing Co is located at The Fort in McHenry, off Garrett Highway (Rt. 219). The shop is open Wednesday – Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM and on Sunday from 10 – 3 during the fall and winter season, and 7 days a week throughout the summer. Stop by and see this unique area shop soon.
