October is a busy month in Garrett County – especially for our local artists, Garrett County residents and visitors!

SEYMOUR, a Garrett County Arts Council project, in cooperation with Simon Pearce, takes place on Friday, October 11 and Saturday, October 12 from 10am to 6pm during the annual Autumn Glory weekend in Oakland. The Garrett County Arts Council invites you to SEE MORE handmade items from over 30 local and regional fine artists, traditional craftspeople and regional food makers. All work will be available for purchase. Some artists will be offering short demos at their booths for people to enjoy, and musical, dance and theatre acts have been scheduled throughout both days. Visitors will be able to continue the adventure of SEYMOUR and watch Simon Pearce master glassblowers at work producing hand-blown crystal glassware. The company’s retail shop will also be open.

To find out more about the event visit seymourart.org or follow the SEYMOUR 2019 event on Facebook for sneak peeks of this year’s vendors.

The Garrett County Arts Council is raffling off two items at this year’s event. One item is a queen size quilt made by local quilter Joan Chaney that is titled “Misty Mountain Pond”. The other is a unique bowl from local wood-turner Don Smith that is made from Big Leaf Maple Burl from the Pacific Northwest. Tickets are $1 a piece or $5 for 6 or $10 for 15. To see the items being raffled off, and to purchase your raffle tickets ahead of the event, visit The Gallery Shop at 108 S. Second Street in Oakland. The drawing will take place on Saturday October 12 at 5 pm. (The winner does not need to be present.)

Located just three miles east of Oakland at 265 Glass Drive, admission and parking at SEYMOUR is free. Garrett Transit Shuttle Service is also running a route on Saturday, October 12 from the Town of Oakland Parking Lot to Simon Pearce. (The last shuttle departs Simon Pearce at 5:45pm.)
