January 2024 Issue

Dear Friends,

A new year is upon us and winter has arrived. Wisp was able to open mid-December and, as always, their crew is working hard to ensure safe and fun skiing and snowboarding to visitors and locals alike.

We’ve included lots of fun features this month including Collen DuBose’s look at the Deep Creek Dunk to be held next month…celebrating 25 years of fun and fund-raising (Page 6). Our Community Spotlight shines once again on the Garrett Lakes Arts Festival and their community outreach programs into our local schools (Page 24).

Be sure to read Anthony Wroten’s article about local Pirates, Poets, & Scribes (Page 42) and if reading is your pleasure during the winter months, Collen has more books to recommend in The Lake-Front Book Club (Page 52). If your New Year’s Resolution is to lose weight, be sure to read all about TOPS (Taking Off Pounds Sensibly), one of Garrett County Health Department’s many outstanding programs. Read more starting on Page 48.

As always, Mike Fratz looks at local happenings (Page 30) and our Calendar of Events (Page 14) ties it all together.

Enjoy!
