July 2023 Issue

Dear Friends,
The month of July is full of fairs, festivals, fireworks, and FUN! Take a look at our cover story on Page 6 where Collen DuBose takes a look at Camp Caring, and the upcoming Big Funky Blues Fest happening in August. Our Business Spotlights shine on two local favorites, Unique Decor personal home shopping service, and Alpaca Acres, a family farm offering all sorts of adventures for the entire clan.

If you love live music, this is the place for you! From stellar entertainment at local restaurants and pubs (mostly free of charge) to free outdoor concerts at Wisp and in downtown Oakland, PLUS a big splashy musical happening atop Wisp Mountain in late July through mid-August, you can literally be entertained every night of the week. Be sure to check out our Live Music Guide starting on Page 105 for details.

We had a lot of positive feedback on last month’s articles on places that aren’t there anymore, and I got a call from old friend Bob Browning, former Captain of the Evening Star. He wanted to remind me that while the boat was too large for the lake according to DNR standards, the Evening Star was grand-fathered in. The boat still exists today, dry docked on Bob’s land. How fun would it be to see it back on the water someday.

Whatever your pleasure this summer, Enjoy!
