There’s just something about July in Garrett County that makes me smile. The lake’s buzzing, the mountain laurel’s showing off, and it feels like everyone’s out and soaking it in – chasing sunsets, meeting friends on the water, and grabbing ice cream on a Tuesday afternoon. It’s my favorite month, hands down. The days just feel brighter and full of possibility.

For me, the Fourth of July has always been the real kickoff to summer. It’s the moment the season hits its stride with fireworks echoing off the mountains, boats lit up on the lake, and the smell of cookouts everywhere you turn.

This month also happens to be my first issue as managing editor of The Lake-Front Magazine, and I’m honestly so excited to be part of something that’s been loved locally for 34 years. Huge thanks to Linda Carr for everything she’s built; her heart and style are all over these pages and Garrett County is so lucky to have her. I’m honored to help carry that forward.

So here’s to dock days, porch nights, and those quiet little moments that make summer feel like summer. Wave to your neighbors, say yes to one more s’more, and stop and smell the mountain laurel (seriously—they’re everywhere and they’re stunning).

Hope to see you out there!
