June 2023 Issue

Dear Friends,

Summer is here! Long days, warm nights, and tons of fun are to be had here on the mountaintop. While I appreciate every season, summer has so much to offer…there is just not enough time in the day to take it all in.

As Deep Creek Lake celebrates her 98th Birthday this month, contributor Collen DuBose takes a look at some places that aren’t here any longer, but live on in the minds of locals and visitors (Page 6). In celebration of Pride month, Michael Fratz pays tribute to the LGBTQIA community here in Garrett County (Page 14) and our Business Spotlight shines on a true Garrett County original, the Silver Tree Marine, in business since the early 1990’s (Page 38). Anthony Wroten explores the OWL Writing Group in our Artisitically Speaking column starting on Page 50.

Be sure to check out our expanded Calendar of Events beginning on Page 21 and our Live Music Guide on Page 105 for all the latest happenings throughout the county. From yoga to art, festivals to kids’ activities, along with stellar regional entertainment, there is truly something for everyone.

You can also find out more about upcoming events in our What’s Happening columns, including the popular Victorian Chautauqua slated in July (Page 64), and the Mt. Laurel Garden Club’s two popular events happening later this month (Page 72). There is even a musical coming to the ASCI amphitheater at Wisp in late July, read all about it starting on Page 78.

Whatever your pleasure this summer, Enjoy!
