June 2024 Issue

Welcome Summer 2024! There are so many wonderful activities happening this month, we could barely include them all. In addition to our expanded Calendar of Events, you’ll find a variety of What’s Happening articles scattered throughout the magazine highlighting many of the upcoming activities. For live music, summer in Garrett County can’t be beat! From symphonies to chamber music to folk to good, old-fashioned rock and roll, we have it all! In addition to Our Live Music Guide (page 106), you’ll find many offerings in the pages of our Calender of Events (page 14).

June activities include everything from a Celtic Festival to several charity events. Our local businesses have a lot to offer as well, read about the businesses at Market Square in McHenry which hosts everything from a furniture store, a coffee shop, well-stocked grocery, and one of the area’s most unique gift shops. Read their story beginning on page 30.

This is also the month we celebrate the 99th Birthday of Deep Creek Lake! Check out Collen DuBose’s article beginning on page 38 for a look at this year’s celebration along with a look at next year’s 100th Anniversary Celebration, in the planning stages now…it’s going to be special, I promise!

June is nationally recognized as Gay Pride Month and our very own Garrett County is hosting their first ever Pride Festival on June 15th. Read Michael Fratz’s touching account of how this has affected him directly his entire life and about the celebration planned in Mountain Lake Park.
