May 2023 Issue

Dear Friends,

Several days of warm weather have everything blooming and spring is definitely in the air. Because whitewater rafting is one of the highlights of spring for many area visitors and residents, we dedicate this issue to the wonderful river culture in Garrett County. Collen DuBose looks at River Culture along the Youghiogheny River in our Cover Story beginning on Page 6.

The theme continues with our Unsung Hero for May, rafter Charlie Walbridge, who has done much to promote safe rafting. See his story beginning on Page 14. The first of two Business Spotlights shines on a popular whitewater rafting outfit on both the Yough and the Cheat Rivers, Cheat River Outfitters, based in Albright, WV. Read more about them starting on Page 40.

Our second Spotlight features some of the wonderful employees at Brenda’s Pizzeria, who just attended a prestigious pizza “school” in Pittsburgh. Read the article on Page 34 to see what new delights they will bring to their already delicious pizzas.

Other features include an update on the popular Celtic Festival, returning to Friendsville on June 3 and plans for the Garrett County Choral Concert, slated for Sunday, May 21st. As always, see our complete listing of area events starting on Page 20 and follow us on Facebook for even more
updates.

Remember, whatever your pleasure this spring, Enjoy!
