The Garrett County Chamber of Commerce is proud to announce Patty Mash as the recipient of the 2025 Peggy Jamison Heritage Preservation Award, an honor that recognizes exceptional dedication to preserving and promoting the rich heritage of Garrett County. The award was presented at the Chamber’s Annual Membership Meeting & Dinner on June 4, 2025.
Now in its second year, the Peggy Jamison Heritage Preservation Award is given to an individual, business, non-profit, or organization that has made a long-term and meaningful impact on heritage preservation through education, advocacy, and active participation in local history initiatives. Patty Mash has done all that and more, serving as a tireless steward of Garrett County’s history and a passionate advocate for its cultural legacy
After moving to Garrett County in 1979, Patty immediately began championing the region. From her early work at the Village Inn—where she helped attract tour groups and built relationships with the Maryland Office of Tourism—to her 20+ years as Public Affairs Officer for the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Patty has consistently promoted the unique natural and cultural assets of Western Maryland.
In retirement, Patty’s service to the community has not slowed. She has welcomed visitors as a step-on guide and greeter, volunteered at events such as the Autumn Glory Craft & Gift Show, and shared her knowledge with guests at Wisp Resort. She has chaired the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber’s Garrett County Diplomats Committee and serves on the Board of Directors and the Mountain Maryland Gateway to the West Heritage Area Advisory Board, where she has been a founding member and a longstanding voice for heritage education. In 2017, she was selected for the Honorary Golden Ambassador award for her contributions and support of tourism in Garrett County.
As Chair of the Heritage Area’s Education Committee, Patty has helped bring heritage to life for countless residents and visitors. Whether guiding new members, hosting tours, or connecting people and stories across generations, her personal investment in the county’s legacy is unmatched.
The Peggy Jamison Heritage Preservation Award honors the legacy of Peggy Jamison, a dedicated preservationist and advocate for the cultural and natural heritage of Garrett County. Patty Mash’s decades of volunteerism, leadership, and unwavering love for Garrett County make her a most deserving recipient.
“Patty not only shows up—she leads, she educates, and she makes others just as passionate about preserving our shared history. Patty is a natural mentor, a generous friend, and a cornerstone of the Heritage Area’s success,” said Amber Sanders, Heritage Area Director of the Garrett County Chamber of Commerce.
The Peggy Jamison Heritage Preservation Award has been established to recognize a corporation, business, non-profit, or individual which has demonstrated an exemplary commitment to preserving the rich heritage of Garrett County.
