September 2024 Issue
Dear Friends,
As we say goodbye to another wonderful summer at the lake, cooler weather brings its own pleasures….fun, fall festivals, evenings by the bonfire, or a rainy afternoon with a good book. The month of September is one of my favorites. We still can enjoy hot, sunny days but can leave the windows open for the best sleeping weather.
As you can see by our Calendar of Events (beginning on Page 14), there are still plenty of events happening throughout the county and plenty of time to enjoy those last days of summer. Anthony Wroten of the Garrett County Arts Council lists all of the amazing art events taking place this month…read more about that starting on Page 50.
This month, Collen and Michael bring stories of interesting places and people. Collen talks with the grand “dames” of River’s Edge Antiques in Confluence (page 28), and looks at some of the vital work being performed by two of our local political groups (page 6). Mike shares some of his summer antics in The Mike Drop (page 34) but be sure to catch his heartfelt ode to a true Garrett County hero, Special Olympian Brandon Wilt. Read all about it starting on Page 42.
As we look ahead to October, make plans now to attend the annual Autumn Glory Festival. It’s a local and regional favorite, when Garrett County likes to show off all her colorful beauty.
Whatever your pleasure this September, enjoy!
