Anyone who has driven along Garrett Highway at Deep Creek Lake this spring has noticed that big changes have been happening at two of the area’s favorite establishments.

Owner Brenda McDonnell is always thinking about how to better serve her customers and has transformed part of the Coffee House to include a brand-new space to make carry-out at the Pizzeria much easier and improve the efficiency of the Coffee House.

“On busy weekends, those wanting to come for dinner upstairs at the Pizzeria would be fighting through the crowd of people waiting for take-out. Having a designated space for carry out makes it easier for all of our customers and with one way in and one way out, makes for a better flow for all,” explains Brenda. “We still have our same great food and our same great staff. Everything we’ve done is designed to make their job easier and your wait shorter.”

The first change you’ll notice on the lower level is when you walk into the new vestibule and see the striking tile work reminiscent of Brenda’s neighborhood Subway stop. Customers can go right and head upstairs to dine in at the Pizzeria (whose space also received some décor updates and touch-ups); or head straight into the Carry-out Section, with it’s beautiful subway tile and sparkling granite for a real New York experience.

Turn left to go into Trader’s Coffee House, still serving delicious hot and cold brewed coffees drinks, sandwiches, pastries and so much more.

The Coffee House had to sacrifice some space to accommodate the new Carry-Out, but the new entrance will allow for a better flow for customers. Although most of their changes occurred back of the house, customers will definitely see a benefit.
In addition to a better efficiency from start to finish, they have upgraded most of their kitchen equipment including a brand-new state of the art espresso machine, a new smoothie station and redesigned workspace in the kitchen so food will come out much faster.

They have also expanded their drink line this summer including their cold brewed and nitrogen infused coffees. According to Coffee House Manager Jean Thomas, cold brew coffee is steeped for 24 hours, which makes it 67% less acidic. Explains Jean, “The coffee is bold and strong but has a smoother quality, and is not as hard on the stomach.”

Nitro Coffee takes cold brew a step further, infusing it with nitrogen, which results in a small amount of carbonation, making it creamier with lots of texture. “This coffee is so delicious, most of our customers don’t even feel the need to add cream,” says Jean.

At the Smoothie station, customers can choose from different options to enjoy a quick and healthy breakfast or a filling snack. Made with real fruit, yogurt or almond milk, and extras like spinach, avocado, or protein you won’t be disappointed. Be sure to check out their Specials board for unique takes on some of your favorite coffee, tea, and cold drinks.

You’ll still find all your favorite menu items at Trader’s including breakfast treats like Quiche, Belgian Waffles, Breakfast Sandwiches, Protein wraps (a local favorite), and of course bagels from the Bronx.

For lunch enjoy a panini, quesadilla, or a delicious wrap or salad. Their homemade Chicken Salad served on your choice of bread is always a hit. In a hurry? You’ll find plenty of pre-made offerings in their Grab ‘n’ Go case or head over to Brenda’s Take-Out space for a quick slice of New York Pizza- the best. Some House Specialties are chicken roll, Italian Roll, calzones, and bruschetta made with Local Tomatoes.

All the menu items at Brenda’s are available by ordering online or by phone. Call ahead orders are always welcome at Trader’s. As always, they use only quality products along with locally grown produce as available. While you’re waiting, enjoy a cold beer or glass of wine on the new outdoor seating area overlooking Deep Creek Lake.

Don’t forget dessert! Trader’s Coffee House is known for their freshly baked muffins, strudels, scones, crumb cakes, cupcakes and more. Part of the remodel included a larger display case for pastries and baked goods. Baker Melissa Sines has been busy adapting recipes for homemade coconut cream, lemon meringue and chocolate cream pies: they are now available in their cold case.

Trader’s also offers dairy free and gluten free options drinks and food.

Brenda’s Pizzeria and Traders Coffee House are located along Garrett Highway, just south of Deep Creek Lake Bridge. They have ample parking in the back and several boat docks for your convenience.
