September 2026 Issue

Dear Friends,

I spend a lot of time telling people there is always something to do in Garrett County. And, apparently, in August I decided to go full send and prove it.

Looking back through my camera roll, August included everything from sailing Deep Creek Lake to touring the factory where Flying Scots are still built by hand to watching the demolition derby at the Garrett County Agriculture Fair.

I listened to a variety of music at the Little Yough Music Festival. I had my first authentic snowball. I rode my bike. I volunteered at the 240 Minutes of Margraff event. I joined my friends for the dragon boat fundraiser at Broadford Lake Park. I celebrated the opening of Hey Sugar and Sprinkles & Sourdough! I painted two ceramic bowls for the upcoming Empty Bowls fundraiser. I interviewed several people behind the scenes of the Fair and 4-H. And, Podcast Director Tracy and I took a road trip around Garrett County to see all of the state historical markers.

There was also one particularly meaningful moment: I received a commendation from the Garrett County Commissioners for my work as chair of the Garrett 250 committee.

Some of it was work. Some of it was volunteering. Some of it was for the fun of it. But more than a few of those experiences will be turned into stories you’ll read about in the Lakefront and podcasts you will hear on The Backbone Podcast (available on Apple, Spotify, and YouTube).

Lakefront Magazine has been Helping Visitors Feel Like Locals Since 1991, and I can’t think of a better way to continue this legacy than getting out from behind my desk and documenting the adventures of “Skip Around with Sarah.” See page 18 for more.
