This following magazine project was created for ART 207 by Bella Mason.
This course, Graphic Design, was taken at Frostburg State University and is a foundational course focused on core design principles, layout, visual storytelling, and communication.
The goal of this project is to design a magazine that highlights the people, places, and experiences that make Garrett County such a unique and special place.
Rather than relying only on her own photography, Bella decided this project is rooted in community-sourced content. She invited local residents and visitors to share their photos, stories, quotes, and experiences. She was open to everything from scenic views and wildlife to hiking adventures, favorite places, and everyday moments that capture the spirit of the region.
With permission, these submissions were incorporated into the design to create a magazine that feels authentic, personal, and representative of the community.
The magazine celebrates Garrett County’s outdoor culture, natural beauty, and sense of place—showcasing mountains, trails, wildlife, seasons, and the quiet magic of life here. The focus is not just on “pretty pictures,” but on telling a story about what it feels like to be here.
This project consists primarily of an eight-page magazine layout, which serves as the main design deliverable for the course. Through this piece, Bella explored layouts, typography, image hierarchy, visual flow, and cohesive branding while applying the core principles taught in ART 207.
